Western Pennsylvania Writing Project Fund
Since 1984, the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project (WPWP) has been a vital resource for teachers of writing and writers in the Western Pennsylvania region. We explore writing, literacy, teaching, and learning in communities (schools, classrooms, organizations) as a practice of community. We enter learning communities as teachers teaching teachers to form collaborations aimed at helping to build and shape literacy practices. Across our 40 years of service in Southwestern Pennsylvania, the WPWP has served teachers and students in over 50 school districts and has partnered with over 150 local schools and community organizations.
Philanthropic support lets us:
- Involve promising teachers in developing their talents so they can help other educators and young people in literacy work
- Design and implement innovative programs for young writers to develop writing skills and increase personal and cultural awareness
- Foster partnerships with local resources so that learning opportunities are synergistic and support writing
- Provide scholarships and opportunities for teachers and students
- Support the Scholastic Writing Awards in the Pittsburgh region
The WPWP works at the confluence of research and teaching practice, and across subject areas. For more information about our work, please visit here.
