The August Wilson Archive

The University of Pittsburgh Library System (ULS) is home to the archive of the late playwright and Pittsburgh native son August Wilson, best known for his unprecedented American Century Cycle —ten plays that convey the Black experience in each decade of the 20th century.

With your gift, we can ensure the August Wilson Archive is preserved and accessible to local and global audiences for years to come.

The August Wilson Archive is open for research by students, faculty, scholars, and the public who have access to original scripts, working drafts, production history, and other documentation of Wilson’s American Century Cycle Plays. Additional material includes hundreds of notebooks with handwritten notes, Wilson’s unpublished plays, audio-video recordings, photographs, awards, proclamations, honorary degrees, screenplays, and documents discussing film and television adaptations.
