Kesem at the University of Pittsburgh
Kesem, a national
nonprofit, is a diverse community led by college students that supports
children through and beyond their parent's cancer. Founded in 2000, Kesem's
community consists of more than 5,000 volunteer college student leaders at more
than 130 college campuses across the country. Kesem at the University of
Pittsburgh has been around since 2017, where we provide year round support for
local children ages 6-18 facing a parent's cancer. It's flagship program, Camp
Kesem, is a week-long sleepaway summer camp. At Camp, kids have fun and build
connections with each other and counselors who understand and are trained to
support their needs. Beyond camp, year-round services such as care packages,
personalized greetings, birthday cards, local gatherings, leadership groups,
and affinity groups provide a continuum of touchpoints for campers and their
families.
Kesem is entirely funded
by generous donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations. Whether
it's renting a campground for camp, organizing year round events, or even
guaranteeing an abundance of s'mores, donations go directly to the local kids.
Here, at Kesem at the University of Pittsburgh, we are dedicated to ensuring
every child impacted by a parent's cancer is never alone. For more information,
