Help us reimagine play at Falk.

"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."

—Fred Rogers, beloved educator, television host, and former Falk School parent

Founded in 1931 with a mission to be a progressive, experimental, and demonstration elementary school, Falk Laboratory School remains one of the few K-8 lab schools in the United States. Falk's educational philosophy recognizes the school as a center of inquiry where learning takes place at every level, and play is and always has been central to learning at Falk.

The current playground was constructed during the building expansion in 2008, and much of the remaining equipment is nearing the end of its useful life. More than 430 children in grades K–8 use the playground daily. Careful observation during these times tells us that children need new spaces to run, climb, play sports, build, and create.

A playground renovation would allow our playground facilities to be more in line with our pedagogical approach, which invites children to create, explore, innovate, and experiment. This year, a Falk playground committee will work hard to reimagine and redesign play spaces at Falk. Can we count on you to help bring that vision to life?
