Fencing Club at Pitt

Fencing Club at Pitt gives Pitt students the opportunity to pursue a unique, beautiful, and complex sport. Our club guides members through athletic training and team building, helping one another to build self-confidence, fitness and endurance, and connection to a deeply historical and cultural practice. To make the club as accessible as possible, all of our gear is communal, and members are encouraged to try all three types of Olympic fencing: foil, epee, and sabre.

Because of the sheer amount of equipment needed to fence, and the high costs of these protective and electric materials, Fencing Club at Pitt requires more funds than the average club sport. We also attend at least three tournaments a year, 1-2 of which are out-of-state. The hotel, gas/car rental, and tournament fees are partly covered by member's dues, however we try to keep dues as low as possible so anyone can enjoy the sport. Instead, we sparingly use our allocated funds to put as many team members as possible through these amazing competitive opportunities.

Pitt Day of Giving is our biggest fundraiser of the year. The funds that we receive from PDoG help us repair our gear and purchase new gear where needed, accommodate for tournaments and travel, and keep our club accessible to a growing number of members. Fencing is an expensive sport, but through fundraising and outreach, we are committed to upholding Fencing Club at Pitt's impact in our Pitt community, one bout at a time!
