Film & Media Studies Alumni Event in NYC

On October 9th 2025, the Film & Media Studies Program (FMSP) brought together over 50 Pitt alumni at Paramount's headquarters in New York City. This event, co-hosted by the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business Administration, provided a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with alumni working in the business and entertainment industries.

Before the private screening of alumna Yasmine Crawley’s (Class of 2021) short film In Good Hands attendees had the chance to mingle, reconnect, and get acquainted with the FMS program. The evening began with formal introductions of some of the event’s coordinators. Special thanks to: Ben Asciutto, Yasmine Crawley, Sylvia Owusu-Ansah, David Pettersen, Hillary Demmon, Amanda Bublinec, Carl Kurlander, Amy McCloskey, and Joshua Bow.

After the screening, Yasmine Crawley led a Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage with her film. Following the Q&A, alumni networked with faculty, staff, and each other over food and drinks. Some of the event organizers also shared insights on the process of creating the event and provided updates on recent developments within the FMS program. Additionally, the Pitt Alumni Association was able to show a highlight reel of some of the great professional accomplishments by Pitt’s FMS graduates.

We are incredibly proud of this event and are committed to hosting similar gatherings in major cities where Pitt alumni are active in the entertainment industry. Alumni film screenings and networking events play a vital role in strengthening our FMSP alumni community and supporting the professional growth of industry professionals.

As part of our ongoing efforts to foster deeper engagement with alumni, we are introducing new initiatives such as a LinkedIn Group and a digital mailing list featuring exciting updates, alumni-student opportunities, and a digital platform for continued networking. Aligned with the goals of Pitt’s Day of Giving and the Pitt Alumni Association, our commitment is to building a stronger connection between the University of Pittsburgh and its alumni. We know the excellence our alumni have to offer the entertainment industry and want to continue to highlight your successes!

Once again, thank you to everyone who helped organize this event and to the alumni who attended! We look forward to continuing to connect Pitt alumni in the entertainment industry and creating a dynamic environment for collaboration. Be sure to sign up for our Digital Mailing List and LinkedIn Group, linked below, for future opportunities! Hail 2 Pitt!
