Food Recovery Heroes

Food Recovery Heroes is a student-run organization at the University of Pittsburgh dedicated to combating food waste and food insecurity. Our organization operates on the principle of "food rescue," where volunteers collect, sort, and repackage leftover food that is still safe for consumption. We divert surplus food from the Eatery, on-campus dining locations, and off-campus coffee shops to local hunger-fighting organizations. Last semester, we recovered 10,000+ pounds of food!

Your donation is crucial to the continued success and expansion of Food Recovery Heroes.  As a completely volunteer-driven organization, we rely solely on the generosity of donors like you to cover essential operating costs. The funds raised from Pitt Day of Giving will allow us to transport recovered food safely. Your support directly supports our mission, ensuring that perfectly good food stays out of landfills and instead nourishes individuals in need throughout the Pittsburgh community.
