Matthew B. Ridgway Center for International Security Studies
The Matthew B. Ridgway Center for
International Security Studies is dedicated to preparing the next generation of security analysts for successful careers in security and intelligence. In support of our mission, the Ridgway Center sponsors working groups of students who perform policy-relevant research and analysis on different projects related to national and international security. Each year the working group program provides our students a unique opportunity to conduct policy-relevant research for real-world clients. Current and past clients have included the Pittsburgh Division of the FBI, AFWERX, the innovation arm of the Air Force, and the Department of Defense. The Ridgway Center needs funds to sustain our working group and fellowship program so that we may continue to provide these invaluable professional development opportunities to our students.
The Ridgway Center also produces original and impartial research on key issues that inform policymakers, journalists, researchers, and others who confront diverse challenges to international security. The Ridgway Center partners with numerous institutions and organizations to produce cutting-edge research, events, and resources for the University of Pittsburgh and the international security community. Several events are hosted throughout the year to inform and educate the GSPIA community, the University of Pittsburgh, the public, and the national and international security community. Current affairs, including the ongoing wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, make it clear that the work of the Ridgway Center is as relevant, and important, as ever.
Thank you for supporting our work and students!
Reflections from Students
"The Ridgway Center has allowed me not only the opportunity to pursue my research interests in graduate school, but to engage in my passion for leadership. As a Working Group Student Lead, I have been able to manage a project start to finish, with an incredible team. My involvement in the Ridgway Center has prepared me greatly for my future career and is a formative piece of my GSPIA experience."
"Ridgway has helped me grow as a leader while immersing myself in an inclusive and diverse work environment. As a result, I have made tremendous strides in my ability to work within a team and communicate effectively.”
“The Ridgway Center has been instrumental in helping me develop my brief-writing and research skills. The work that we do is made that much more rewarding because we partner with organizations outside of the university, so we know that our work is making a difference. Because of Ridgway, I feel much more comfortable and confident doing research and writing for class projects and internship projects." - Current student
