Pittsburgh Network for Threatened Scholars (PiNTS)
The Pittsburgh Network for Threatened Scholars (PiNTS) is a
vital support network dedicated to protecting academic freedom and assisting
scholars in rebuilding their professional lives in a secure environment. Hosted
by the Global Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh, PiNTS empowers
scholars—including faculty and graduate students—to continue their research and
teaching while enriching both the Pitt community and the global academic
landscape.
In collaboration with the Institute of International
Education’s Scholar Rescue Fund and other international organizations, PiNTS
provides:
- Fellowships &
Academic Appointments
– Offering temporary research and teaching positions for faculty and
financial support for graduate students facing threats to their academic
freedom.
- Mentorship &
Community Integration
– Connecting scholars with faculty, students, and professional networks to
ease their transition into new academic and social environments.
- Legal & Logistical
Support
– Assisting with visa applications, housing, and other critical needs to
ensure a smooth resettlement.
Through these efforts, PiNTS plays a crucial role in
safeguarding scholars at risk, fostering intellectual exchange, and upholding
the principles of academic freedom.
