Plant 2 Plate
Oakland and University of
Pittsburgh community members suffer from limited access to fresh produce.
Plant2Plate is a student-run gardening club that aims to provide members with
hands-on learning opportunities, strategies for fighting food insecurity, and
connections with those aiming for a more sustainable future. All produce grown
at our garden is distributed to the Pitt Pantry, local food banks, and garden
volunteers for an immediate and direct impact.
In addition to maintaining
garden spaces, Plant2Plate holds a variety of other events and activities. Our
yearly Harvest and Spring festivals feature live music, food trucks, and
student art vendors. These events draw visitors from all walks of life, unifying
them through their shared love of local produce and fighting food insecurity.
We have multiple potluck meals throughout the semester, offering students and
community members an opportunity to share their cooking and connect over food.
We also provide learning opportunities and information sessions for student
groups looking to learn about urban gardening and food systems.
Our current garden space
is located on Oakland Avenue; but we will soon be transitioning to a new
community space on Vera Street due to construction. All donations collected
from Pitt Day of Giving will go towards ensuring a smooth transition to our new
garden area, hosting community events, purchasing new tools, seeds, and other
supplies for the 2024 growing season. Thank you for your consideration and we
hope to see you in the garden soon!

you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."
