Special Needs Assistance Program
The Special Needs Assistance Program
for Social Engagement (SNAP@Pitt) plays a vital role in fostering a more
inclusive community by increasing engagement, awareness and communication
between the neurodiverse and neurotypical populations. To support this mission,
SNAP partners with various organizations in Pittsburgh to create opportunities
for these communities to come together.
SNAP's events, such as the mural
painting project, which was made possible with the support of the Swanson
School of Engineering, provide a platform for neurodiverse and neurotypical
people to come together and create something that illustrates a path towards a
more inclusive future. The mural will be on display in Benedum hall for years
to come, and the event committee is always working hard to create more engaging
and accessible events.
Additionally, SNAP regularly hosts speaker events that invite a variety of guest speakers from diverse backgrounds to speak on their experiences with neurodiversity. These events provide valuable insight and perspectives, and it helps to educate and raise awareness of neurodiversity. SNAP also works to make a lasting impact in the surrounding neighborhoods by partnering with local hospitals to create unique volunteering programs that help address patient needs related to disabilities.
The success of SNAP's programs is evident in the growth of its membership, which has more than doubled every semester, but to continue this progress, we need your support. Your generous contribution will enable us to further push the boundaries of making not only our University but the entire city more accessible and inclusive. We can plan more events to strengthen the bond between the neurodiverse and neurotypical communities. Thank you for your support.
