Treble Choral Ensemble
Founded
in 1914, The University of Pittsburgh Treble Choral Ensemble,
formerly Women's Choral Ensemble, brings together treble voices from all
disciplines of the University community. The ensemble performs repertoire
ranging from renaissance to contemporary styles of music and prepares two
principal concert programs each year. In addition to these principal concerts,
TCE hosts an annual Women’s/Treble Choir Festival comprising of university,
high school, and community women’s choirs at Heinz Chapel. TCE also sings the
national anthem at various Pitt sporting events, performs at Pitt Lantern
Night, hosts an annual Mother’s Day Tribute concert at Heinz Chapel, and
performs at the Nutcracker Ballet at the Benedum Theater. More recently, TCE
has been involved in caroling at nursing homes and hospitals. Lastly, TCE has
served as the model choir for the American Choral Directors Association’s Sweet
Harmony Festival for girls, grades 6-9.
This
year, TCE is planning their first tour to Toronto since their tour to Spain was
canceled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This tour is a wonderful
opportunity to display the talent that is cultivated at the University of
Pittsburgh. Any money raised from Pitt Day of Giving will go towards covering
the expenses for the trip. This tour will be a very important chance for the
members of the choir to bond and practice performing for different kinds of
audiences. This will help them to prepare for their campus commitments. Any gift
that someone makes towards the group will go directly towards ensuring that
every member will be able to attend this special opportunity. Thank you for
your generosity!
