PDoG helps Kappa Psi beta Kappa members make connections and memories

Thanks to Pitt Day of Giving (PDoG) support, members of Pitt’s Kappa Psi Beta Kappa chapter were able to attend the 2022 Kappa Psi Grand Council Convention in Phoenix. Contributions from 77 donors totaling $2,174 fully funded travel and registration for two pharmacy students, Maggie Schmidt and Ilane Saad, who otherwise could not afford to attend due to demanding academic schedules. The biennial conference provided valuable opportunities for professional development, networking, and leadership engagement. The chapter also earned multiple national awards, including a Member Spotlight Award for Schmidt. PDoG funding helped students build lasting connections, gain recognition, and create meaningful memories that enriched their pharmacy school experience.

Pitt day of giving helps panthers forward participants feel secure in their futures

Panthers Forward raised an additional $6,000 on Pitt Day of Giving 2022 through the efforts of student Social Media Ambassadors and mentor support. Participants like Joslyn Lapinski, a graduate student in the School of Social Work, helped drive fundraising by sharing the program’s impact with their networks, earning $4,000 in challenge funds for securing the most gifts on campus. When the program surpassed 200 donors, mentor Tom Cedel contributed an extra $2,000. Panthers Forward provides up to $5,000 in federal student loan relief to graduating students, easing financial stress while fostering a strong community of mentorship, support, and shared commitment to paying it forward.

Pitt Public Health Donors Ignite Passion in Local High School Students

Pitt Day of Giving 2022 support helped the School of Public Health expand its impact by funding scholarships and launching the Public Health Science Academy, which engages local high school students in health sciences research. With 180 donors—more than a 30 percent increase over the previous year—Pitt Public Health raised $18,000 and unlocked $5,500 in bonus funds. The academy connected students with faculty mentors to explore real-world public health challenges such as disease prevention, health inequities, and climate change. Through hands-on research and community engagement, the program sparked scientific curiosity, built early pathways to higher education, and inspired the next generation of public health leaders to create healthier, more equitable communities.

PDoG surprise benefits new school of computing and information program

A surprise Pitt Day of Giving (PDoG) gift from Emeritus Trustee Alfred Moye helped strengthen the School of Computing and Information’s new 3Sixty program, which expands access to technology education for students outside the school. The program allows participants to earn nine technology credits and a degree distinction while prioritizing enrollment of Black students. In 2022, Moye quietly donated $20,000 to support 3Sixty scholarships as part of a larger $31,000 PDoG gift to the University, building on an earlier $100,000 contribution. His generosity immediately expanded student funding and reinforced SCI’s commitment to equity, workforce readiness, and inclusive access to technology education.
