Pitt Global
The award-winning University Center for International Studies (UCIS) leads the University of Pittsburgh’s global programs and partnerships. United under the Pitt Global name, UCIS advances the University’s global vision, offers global experiences on campus and abroad, and supports multidisciplinary research with global impact.
The unit is home to six nationally recognized centers in global and area studies as designated by the Department of Education, international funding for students and faculty, study abroad programs, services for international students and scholars, global operations support, international programs for K-12 schools, and the world-renowned Nationality Rooms.
This year, Pitt Global has decided to highlight an important fund here at the University of Pittsburgh. Your gifts go directly to support threatened scholars to continue their work, integrate into the campus and local community, and share their expertise at Pitt and throughout Pittsburgh.
Administered by the Global Studies Center (GSC) with support from the Provost's Office, the Pittsburgh Network for Threatened Scholars (PiNTS) convenes diverse local and national partner organizations to bring threatened scholars, artists, and practitioners to Pitt and to Pittsburgh. In their countries of origin, the scholars are put at risk professionally and personally due to the content of their work. Our program aims to provide scholars with safe and stable working and living environments as a way of helping them to regain their footing, rebuild their professional networks, and reset their careers.
We provide our visitors with salaries, benefits, visas and other legal assistance, and help with acclimating to University and local life. We provide scholars with intellectual and professional development opportunities and a network for engagement with similarly situated colleagues around the globe. Our scholars work with Pitt faculty and students—as teachers, interlocutors, and colleagues—and contribute to the intellectual life of the University and richness of the broader community. By supporting the PiNTS program, you are contributing to global learning and understanding at Pitt and in Pittsburgh.
